Geni Morrow, Director of the EDGE

Geni has a 28 year teaching/dancing background which is as varied as it is extensive.

As a teacher she has coached gymnastics throughout Oregon, Alaska, and Hawaii, as well as at the prestigious National Academy of Artistic Gymnastics. She decided to combine her dance and gymnastics experience and founded The EDGE in 1992.

As a performer she has danced with Lifters, Inc., the 5 by 2 Dance Co., University of Alaska, the Jones-Ludin Dance Company, the Eugene Jazz Company, Oregon Coast Ballet Company, San Nicholas and Company, and Mary Seereiter. She was Associate Director for the Newport Performing Arts production of “DANCEFORUM.” She is the producer of “Dance for a Reason”, an annual benefit for local charitable organizations.


Amalia Coxe-Trieger

Amalia fell in love with dance when she first found The EDGE. Later joined the EDGE Performance performance Group in 2000 where she experienced the LCC and Hult Center stage through Dance for a Reason. She continues to dance locally; exploring choreography, modern and jazz.

Having competed for several years as a gymnast, Amalia has a strong background in tumbling and is currently an instructor at Bounce Gymnastics. When she isn’t teaching, Amalia takes circus arts classes (climbing the aerial silks is her favorite) bakes up a storm and plays Super Heroes with her twin boys, Ari & Leo, now four. This is her fourth year on staff, and second year as the Pre EDGE Director


Lindsey Shields

Born and raised in Southern Maine, Lindsey started her dance education and training at the age of two in her mother's dance studio, The Turning Point Dance Center. Growing up only an hour from Boston, Lindsey's training was not limited to her mother's studio; she has trained all over the world (in cities as far as Tokyo, Japan) with masters including Jeannette Neill, Tamsin Kemos, Al Gilbert, Mia Michael, Suzi Taylor, Wendy Gibson, Gil Stroming, Tom Logan, and Joe Lanteri.

Lindsey's background includes a strong knowledge of technique in ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, musical theatre, creative movement, lyrical, contemporary, and acrobatics. With over 15-years of teaching experience, she has taught students as young as two and as old as 80. Lindsey has strong performance knowledge on both competitive and recreational levels and has received many national awards for her choreography and talents (including top scores for choreography at regional NYCDA, ADA, and Dancers Inc. competitions). She was first runner-up at the IMTA convention as entertainer-of-the-year in New York City for dance, modeling, and on-screen acting. She has been involved with the training of professional models, performance classes, stage makeup for both dancers and models, on-screen acting, and training young dancers to make the most of their talents.

Lindsey moved to the Pacific Northwest in 2007 hoping to share her knowledge and East Coast style with the many studios in the Eugene area. Since she has been here she has performed and provided choreography for both Dance North West and Kings Krew, taken over the Body and Soul School of Dance when their current owner passed away in a car accident, and has taught for many dance studios in the area including Musical Feet, The Edge, Eugene Ballet Academy, Body and Soul, and the Amazon Community Center.

As the new instructor for the Edge Performance groups, she is very excited for the 2009 season. She is truly passionate about her job and will always provide her students with a loving environment, honesty and a continued and updated education in the arts field.


Valerie Ifill is a local artist and teacher dedicated to creating fulfilling dance experiences for both dancers and audience. Valerie graduated from the University of Oregon in June of 2009 where she earned her Master of Fine Arts degree in dance.

As a Graduate Teaching Fellow at the University of Oregon, she has had the opportunity to teach classes in Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop, African, Improvisation, and Ballroom dance.

Valerie’s most recent research efforts have been dedicated to the Horton technique, which is a form of modern dance created to condition the body to adapt to any dance style. Her current project is preparing for the debut of her contemporary modern dance company, Ifilldance. Valerie is thrilled to be working with the talented instructors and dance students at the EDGE!


 

Chris Gorney (MFA)

Named the Bouncing Boy as a child, he grew up actively involved in sports, gymnastics and martial arts. As a professional, he has toured with Mo-Trans started The Urban Dance Allstars and was a member of Breaking Point Dance Company.

Teaching and performing throughout the Pacific Northwest, Chris has a BFA in Dance Choreograph from the U of M and recently finished his MFA at the U of O. He performs locally with his crew Raw Action Break Squad. Chris will be running the exciting new Breakdance program for The EDGE.


Anita Sanford has been involved in dance and gymnastics for over 25 years. Her accomplished gymnastics career began at the age of 9 at the National Academy of Artistic Gymnastics in Eugene.

At 18, she moved to Southern California where she eventually discovered dance. Granted a scholarship to the Act III Academy of Performing Arts, she trained in ballet, hip-hop and jazz. Since 1991, Anita has worked as professional dancer in stage, video, television and film productions in Los Angeles, Portland and Eugene.

Anita currently teaches at Lane Community College and is the director/ founder of Dance Northwest. This group of dedicated dancers perform throughout the community and produce the annual event, "Down 4 It". Dance Northwest also hosts master classes and workshops, bringing new talent, teachers and opportunities to Eugene's extensive dance community. Anita is so honored to join the EDGE staff!


Dawn J. Lonowski; BFA Dancer / Choreographer / Polarity Therapist & Wellness Educator attended the Columbia College Summer Dance Intensive along with two years undergraduate studies in Chicago before transferring to Arizona State University where she performed at the American College Dance Festival 2000 and finished her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance, Choreography. Following her completion of schooling, Dawn performed in the “Cellbytes 2000” project linking the U.S. and the U.K. and then relocated to New York City where she taught Dance and Yoga at the Abroms Arts Center and the inner city public schools. She danced at such studios as Dance New Amsterdam, Peridance Center and Alvin Ailey and with many acclaimed choreographers as David Dorfman, Jim May, Christian Canciani, and Pamela Piertro. While in New York she also attended the New York Open Center and graduated a Certified Practitioner of Polarity Therapy Wellness Educator, healing arts involving bodywork, nutrition, communication, polarity yoga, cranio-sacral, and reflexology.

From there Dawn continued her studies in Polarity Therapy in Los Angeles, CA graduating with her second certification and developed and taught her own dance/choreography program for L.A.’s Best After School Arts Programs. While in L.A. she also taught dance, yoga, and gymnastics in numerous public and private schools as well as dance studios, was a member of Holly Johnstons’ Ledges and Bones dance project, and enjoyed dancing at Focus Fish, Westside School of Ballet, L.A.’s Edge, and the Academy of Performing Arts and Malashock Dance School in San Diego.

Since her move to Oregon in 2007 to start a new family, and shortly after the birth of her daughter Abbirose, Dawn has developed and started her own Dance Program “EnergyMotions, healing through movement arts” housed in the Willamalane Recreation Center promoting balance, harmony, and longevity where she plans to start her modern dance company. She has also been creating new choreographic works, helped with the transition of establishment of the Body and Soul Studio of Dance after the tragic loss of it’s owner, is an instructor at the Amazon Recreation Center and is now excited to also be teaching at and be a part of the Edge!


Ben Goodman

Originally from Boulder, Colorado, Ben trained at the Boulder Ballet School under Ana Claire and Barbara Demaree, and has also trained at the
Princeton Ballet School, the Juilliard School, and the Boston Ballet School.

Throughout his ballet training, Ben always felt a strong affinity for jazz and contemporary dance and made sure to take full advantage of the
diversity of dance classes offered at these schools.

He began performing professionally with American Repertory Ballet in 2007, performing
works by Graham Lustig, Twyla Tharp, Lisa de Ribere, Melissa Barak, and Bat Abbit.

Ben currently dances for the Eugene Ballet Company, where he has been featured in Peter Pan and Swan Lake. Ben has also choreographed and danced for the Boulder Ballet as a guest artist, most recently choreographing for their annual repertory program.


Tori Mayard

Competitive gymastics and dance (hip hop and jazz) 12 years. Holds multiple individual national cheerleading titles 2002-2005. Taught all-star cheerleading and power tumbling 9 years and counting.

Sideline cheerleader 7 years (middle school high school one year at Louisiana Tech)
Summer Staffed for the National Cheerleaders Association for two years. Two years competitive cheer at Kennesaw State University of Georgia. (Ranked 3rd in the nation in 2007 and 4th in 2008.)

Helped start from scratch the competitive cheer team now known as the "stunts and gymnastics" team at the University of Oregon and will
compete the 2009 -2010 season.


Vicki Fredricks

In 1992 Vicki Fredricks went to her first yoga class and has been a student of yoga ever since. She has been teaching yoga to adults and children since 1996. She received her certification in Kripalu yoga in 1996. Over the years she has studied with many teachers and explored many styles of yoga. She has embraced the grace of Kripalu yoga and the precision of Iyengar yoga. Vicki received her Kundalini Yoga certification as taught by Yogi Bhajan Ph.D in 2003 after completing training in New York.

She is also certified to teach children after completing the Radiant Child Yoga Program. Vicki moved to Eugene, Oregon in 2006 and continues to teach Kundalini Yoga. She shares her passion of her practice with her students and her classes are taught with enthusiasm, love and laughter.
